ATV mud tires are designed to provide maximum traction in all kinds of difficult terrain. They are characterized by deep treads to maximize surface and increase road adhesion. If you plan to drive your ATV on hard surface roads more than occasionally, you may want to reconsider an ATV tire with a smaller tread that will provide a smoother, safer ride. Generally speaking, a mud tire will weigh more and ride rougher than a general purpose all terrain tire.

When selecting a mud tire, you have a couple of options to consider…

• Flat vs. round tread tires. Flat treads provide increased contact with the road along with improved safety. Round treads, in contrast, are more prone to allowing the vehicle to roll over on hard turns.
• The height of the tire. While tall tires look more stylish, they result is greater rollovers on hard turns (since the center of gravity has been raised). On the positive side, tall tires ride softer and provide greater ground clearance.

Tire sizes are specified by height x width x wheel size. For example, 22 x 10 x 11 represents a tire that is 22 inches tall x 10 inches wide x 11 inches wheel size. When purchasing a mud tire, consider purchasing aluminum wheels to offset the additional weight.
